How to select an office chair
We are all different people and have different needs, which are
to be considered when selecting a chair. The main qualities attributed
to a chair that fits any individual are comfort, suitability and
protection from strain injury. These attributes will carry a different
weight to each individual in their own working enviroment.
For some time now, much emphasis has been given to the study of
the office worker in the office enviroment, to suit the latter to
the former and maximise the worker well being in the workplace.
Research have indicated that if a user sits for most of the day,
1,400 hours per annum will be spent on a chair: it become indispensable
that the chair is carefully selected to best fit the user. A chair
must therefore fit its user and:
- promote movement by being flexible and adjustable;
- support the user's body and improve posture by being firm and
- avoid back strain and physical discomfort, which can lead to
long lasting injuries.
The following are important questions you should have an answer
for, to opt for the right chair:
- Who is using the chair?
- Is the chair used by more than one person?
- Should you take into account the user physical characteristics:
height, weight?
- Should you take into account the user health? Ie back problem?
- Why is the chair being used? One function of more?
The mechanisms supply the movement of the chair together with the
gas lift. The choice of mechanism will depend on your answers from
the questions above and we shall illustrate herewith the different

choice:
